SHIBUI collective / Emi Miyoshi

The SHIBUI collective was founded by Japanese-born choreographer Emi Miyoshi. Since 2014 she has been producing in Freiburg at the interface between dance and installation. Her collective has received a 3-year conceptual grant from both the city of Freiburg and the state of Baden-Württemberg. In 2017 and 2019 she won the Dance and Theater Prize of the City of Stuttgart and the State of BW. SHIBUI collective is exploring the complexity and wisdom of dance through interdisciplinary relationships, weaving unexpected narratives and temporal dimensions.
Emi has been supported by Theater Freiburg and Réseau Grand LUXE since 2022/23, she contributes to the residency network, which is fostering innovative projects by emerging choreographers.
In 2023, her collective became the first dance ensemble to receive institutional support from the city Freiburg.
